Some Day Off Fun

Like any other Tuesday we have the day off together. So we decide to go drive around and take pictures. When we drove up on this tree that we both thought was super pretty. So I pulled over and  David hops out of the car and takes off running to it. As soon as he got to the tree he started acting like a monkey all the way around it’s exposed roots. Of course I wasn’t to far behind with the camera ready to take pictures of him having fun. In this first picture he wasn’t even expecting me to be taking pictures yet.

As soon as he realized what I was doing he started to put on a show.

And I am not even sure what he was trying to do on this one. 

On to the next tree:

This coming up tree has lost it’s battle with standing up straight. However it is still beautiful and David can still use it like as a jungle gym.

A little bit further down the road I spotted an Eagle looking right at me, so I couldn’t resist taking some pictures.

 

As we drove a little bite more we started to realize that it was pretty cold out, and the animals aren’t really active. We came a cross a big tank. I thought to myself since we aren’t getting many pictures of the animals because of this weather we aren’t going to waist a trip. So I marched my way up to the tank for a picture.  Say cheese on three. one…two…three… CHEESE!!!! 

As are trip is coming to an end we see some geese chilling by the river.

These geese are known as a  Canada Geese/Goose. Their scientific name is Branta canadensis.

In the wild these geese can live an average of ten to twenty year.

They can have a wingspan of 127 to 185 cm as an adult. The males weigh 3.2 to 6.5 kg as an adult. Where as the females weigh 2.5 to 5.5 kg as an adult.

Some interesting facts:

1.) The old Canada goose lived to be 30 years and 4 months old.

2.) They can travel more then 1000 kilometers in a day.Therefore in just 40 days they can make it all the way around the world.

3.) They are the largest wild geese/ goose in the world.

As our day comes to a end we spot an amazing cite. Every tree down the river as far as you could see had a ton of Bald Eagles in them.Every black dot in these trees are Eagles. This was a perfect way to end a perfect day.

Credit Island In The Winter Of 2014

This beautiful male cardinal is what caught my eye as I was driving around credit island.

Eating the bird food that is on the ground.

Defending his food area from all the other birds.This was truly funny to watch. He was one aggressive little guy.

I am not sure on what type of bird this is so if anyone knows please let me know. Thank you.

Mallards

Mallards are the most familiar ducks known around the world.  They are usually found around water or any public park. They are known as dabble duck.Which means they tip forward under the water to munch on some plants. They hang out in group with other dabble ducks. 

Male Mallards can easily  be pointed out because of their green head and big bright yellow bill. Females  and the ducklings are brown with an orange and brown bill. Both male and female have a white boarder and patch of blue feathers in their wings. As adults they can have a wingspan of 81 to 98 centimeters.  On average mallards live about 20 years.

Interesting Facts:

1.) Mallards are also known as the Canard colvert in franch and the Pato de collar in spanish.

2.) Mallards are completely flightless for 3 to 4 weeks after breeding season because they loose all their flight feathers like other ducks.

3.) The oldest Mallard live to be 27 years and 7 months old.
